Eco-design aims, from the design stage of a process, product or service, to consider its entire life cycle (extraction/production of raw materials, manufacturing, transport, use and care, end of life, etc.) while minimizing environmental impacts.

To eco-design also means ensuring that a product or service maintains its performance (for example, its durability) while reducing its environmental impact. The service provided must be equivalent to or greater than the original product.
