Environmental labelling of a product or service consists of communicating quantified information to consumers, on any suitable medium (the product itself, on the shelf, on a website, etc.), about its main environmental impacts, calculated over its entire life cycle (its manufacturing, transport, use phase, and end-of-life).
In France, environmental labelling came into force on October 1, 2025, on a voluntary basis. Brands that wish to do so can calculate the environmental score of their products thanks to the Ecobalyse tool.
